use of his right side and could not speak for almost three years.
Since then, he has discovered new talents and qualities about himself that he never knew existed. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine himself singing in front of an audience. Now, he sings at church, stroke camps and at special occasions such as the stroke club Christmas party.
Three years ago Jose took an art course at the Eureka Fine Arts Center where he learned to paint with water colours. He has since moved on to using acrylic paints. Although he has not had formal art training, Jose is instinctively using the "Grisaille" method of paint layering. Today he is a member of Artists Helping Artists Co-operative (AHA!) in North Burnaby.
Last month he had a showing of his works in a gallery on Hastings Street. He also has 5 paintings on display in McGill Library, Burnaby. Starting on November 18, some of his paintings will be shown in the Artists Helping Artists exhibit which runs until November 20. The address is 250 Willingdon Avenue in Burnaby. Look for the AHA sign at the rear of the old school.
